Jakarta History Museum and "Si Jagur"
|
Fatahillah Square (Taman Fatahillah), named after the Sultan who conquered the Portuguese in 1527, was the heart of the Dutch colonial administration. It was restored to its current condition in between 1970-74.
Today, there are three museums located around the square, including the Jakarta History Museum (Museum Sejarah Jakarta). One particular attraction is the bronze Portuguese cannon Si Jagur, which lies to the north of the square. The cannon is believed to have some supernatural powers related to fertility.
