The Krakatau Volcano produced the world's loudest and most violent volcanic explosion in 1883, which killed 36,000 people and rocked the earth and the seas with vibrations measurable even in Europe.
The eruption literally destroyed the original island and left several small islands protruding from the sunken crater rim. Today, Krakatau is only a smaller volcano and is named Anak Krakatau (Baby Krakatau).
